Today's pepper prices in the domestic market (May 14, 2025)

Today's pepper prices in some key growing regions remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Therefore, the average domestic pepper price is between 151,000 VND/kg and 152,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 151,000 VND/kg.

Today's pepper price in Gia Lai remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 151,000 VND/kg.

Today's pepper price in Dak Nong remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 151,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is 152,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Dong Nai also remains unchanged from yesterday at 152,000 VND/kg.

Additionally, today's pepper price in Binh Phuoc remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 151,500 VND/kg.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on May 12th (local time) as follows:

Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$7,323/ton. Similarly, Muntok white pepper prices also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,918/ton.

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,800 per ton.

Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,200/tonne. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country remained stable at US$11,900/tonne.

Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) is 6,700 USD/ton; and the price of 550 gr/l is 6,800 USD/ton.

Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,700 per ton.

According to a report by Ptexim, pepper prices tended to fall at the beginning of last week due to weak demand and concerns about escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. However, the market recovered thanks to renewed demand in major markets.

Improved demand has been observed in Europe, Asia, and the US. In particular, China has begun purchasing again, albeit in limited quantities. However, after the harvest season, farmers are not under much pressure to sell and tend to hold onto their stock, expecting prices to rise further.

Drewry's global container rate index for the week ending May 10th fell 1% to $2,076 per 40-foot container. While this is 80% lower than the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains 46% higher than the pre-2019 average. Rates are expected to stabilize as shipping lines adjust capacity to meet the declining demand from China.

On the international market, pepper prices remain high due to shrinking supply after the harvest season and expectations of increased demand from the Middle East and Europe in the second quarter. However, overall, pepper prices are stable or only fluctuating slightly. Although pepper prices this year are higher than the same period in 2024, the area under new pepper cultivation has not increased due to limited land availability and the trend of farmers switching to other crops with higher economic efficiency.

In Brazil, pepper production in 2025 is projected to reach 85,000-90,000 tons, a significant increase from the 75,000 tons of the previous year. The state of Espírito Santo, the main producing region, has already completed its harvest with an estimated yield of 20,000 tons.

According to data from Comexstat, Brazil exported 10,566 tons of black pepper in April, earning $60.1 million. Although slightly lower than the previous month, this represents a sharp increase of 39.1% in volume and nearly double the value compared to the same period last year. Vietnam was the largest importing market, with 4,993 tons, a 5.7-fold increase compared to the previous year.

In the first four months of the year, Brazil exported 33,648 tons, generating $205.6 million in revenue, representing an increase of nearly 30% in volume and doubling in value.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's average export price of pepper in the first four months of the year reached US$6,110 per ton, an increase of nearly 70% compared to the same period last year. In April alone, the price of pepper reached US$5,693 per ton, although lower than the previous month, it was still 43.2% higher than the same period in 2024.
