Pepper prices today, April 16, 2025: Continuing to rise sharply.
Today, April 16th, domestic pepper prices are at 155,500 - 158,000 VND/kg. Prices have increased sharply by 1,000 to 1,500 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Information about lower pepper yields this year compared to last year is contributing to the price increase, with expectations of reaching 160,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper prices in the domestic market (April 16, 2025)
Today's pepper prices in some key growing regions have increased sharply compared to yesterday. As a result, the average domestic pepper price ranges from 155,500 VND/kg to 158,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak increased by 1000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 158,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai increased by 1500 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 155,500 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Dak Nong increased by 1500 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 158,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is 156,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Dong Nai also increased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reaching 156,000 VND/kg.
Additionally, today's pepper price in Binh Phuoc increased by 1500 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 155,500 VND/kg.
Domestic pepper prices are recovering strongly after a period of stagnation due to concerns about the US imposing a 46% retaliatory tariff on Vietnamese goods, including pepper. When the US government announced a 90-day postponement of this tariff, the market immediately became active again with a rapid increase in purchasing activity from international importers.
The tax deferral not only eased the wait-and-see sentiment but also encouraged businesses to import goods before the risk of rising costs returned after the extension. This contributed to the rapid recovery of pepper prices in recent days.
Domestically, many farmers, after harvesting, did not sell their pepper immediately but held onto it because they had already made good profits from durian and coffee crops. This post-harvest hoarding has led to a scarcity of raw pepper supply on the market. In addition, information indicating lower pepper yields this year compared to last year is also contributing to the price increase, with expectations of reaching 160,000 VND/kg soon.
According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in March 2025, Vietnam imported nearly 5,000 tons of pepper with a total value of nearly 29 million USD. Compared to the previous month, the import volume increased by nearly 69%, and the value increased by more than 81%; compared to the same period last year, the increases were over 32% and 104.9% respectively.
Vietnam not only consumes raw materials domestically but also imports pepper from many other countries for processing and re-export. Thanks to developed processing technology, Vietnam's pepper export volume often exceeds domestic production. This is evidence of improving processing capacity, contributing to increasing the value of the pepper industry.
However, in the context of increasingly stringent tariff barriers in global trade, Vietnamese businesses are facing a major challenge: they must be more transparent in their supply chains and increase investment in deep processing if they want to maintain a long-term competitive advantage.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on April 15th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices fell slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,064/ton (down 0.24%). Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also decreased slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$9,651/ton (down 0.25%).
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,850 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at US$9,600/ton. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$12,100/ton.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) is 6,600 USD/ton; and the price of 550 gr/l is 6,800 USD/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday, at $9,600 per ton.
