Today's pepper prices in the domestic market (April 19, 2025)

Today's pepper prices in some key growing regions have reversed course and fallen sharply compared to yesterday. As a result, the average domestic pepper price is between 155,000 VND/kg and 156,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak has dropped sharply by 3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 156,000 VND/kg.

Today's pepper price in Gia Lai decreased by 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 155,000 VND/kg.

Today's pepper price in Dak Nong decreased by 3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 156,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is 155,000 VND/kg, down 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Dong Nai also saw a decrease of 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, now at 155,000 VND/kg.

Additionally, today's pepper price in Binh Phuoc decreased by 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 155,000 VND/kg.

Domestic pepper prices are showing a strong recovery trend after a long period of being affected by concerns about the US's retaliatory tariff policy. The renewed demand has revitalized the market, giving many businesses the opportunity to renegotiate prices in existing contracts.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), demand for imported pepper from major markets such as the US, Europe, and Asian countries, especially China, is increasing again. Meanwhile, the domestic pepper harvest is nearing its end. However, farmers are not in a hurry to sell because they have already made high profits from other crops such as durian and coffee.

Furthermore, information indicating a decrease in pepper production in 2025 compared to the previous year also contributes to the potential for higher pepper prices. Some predict that prices could exceed 160,000 VND/kg if demand remains strong.

However, the Vietnamese pepper industry is also facing risks as the US imposes a 10% tariff while negotiations are still ongoing for 90 days. Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, President of VPSA, said that if the outcome is not favorable, Vietnam could lose market share in the US to competitors such as Indonesia and Brazil. In this context, businesses are advised to proactively expand into new markets, especially the European market.

The EU market is showing positive signs of recovery, with total pepper imports in 2024 increasing by 20% compared to 2023, reaching over 120,000 tons. Vietnam continues to hold the leading position with a 52.1% market share. However, the EU is also a region with very strict requirements regarding quality standards, traceability, and is particularly interested in premium segments such as white pepper and organic pepper.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on April 18th (local time) as follows:

Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices rose slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,056/ton (up 0.07%). Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday, at US$9,641/ton (up 0.07%).

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper increased slightly compared to yesterday, reaching $6,900 per ton (up 0.72%).

Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at US$9,600/ton. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$12,100/ton.

Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) is 6,800 USD/ton; and the price of 550 gr/l is 6,900 USD/ton.

Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,800 per ton.
