In Dong Nai, pepper prices remained unchanged today, maintaining a purchase price of 140,000 VND/kg. Binh Phuoc also traded at the same level of 140,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Both localities share the same average market price.
In Gia Lai, pepper prices remained unchanged, currently being purchased at 139,000 VND/kg. This is the locality with the lowest pepper price in the country on May 19th.
In the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area (now part of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger), pepper prices remain unchanged, currently being purchased at 141,000 VND/kg. This region is at a medium-to-high price level among the key pepper-growing areas.

According to data from the International Pepper Association (IPC), Indonesian black pepper prices continue to be quoted at US$7,050 per ton. Brazilian black pepper (ASTA 570) is priced at US$6,250 per ton. Malaysian black pepper (Kuching ASTA) reached US$9,300 per ton – the highest price among black peppers worldwide.
For Vietnam, the export price of black pepper ranges from US$6,100 to US$6,200 per ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l grades. Vietnam's export price is lower than Indonesia and Malaysia but slightly higher than Brazil.

The Indian pepper market remains stable thanks to demand ahead of the monsoon season.
According to The Hindu Businessline, black pepper prices in the Indian domestic market continue to remain stable thanks to strong demand from spice manufacturers. Purchasing activity by mills ahead of the monsoon season is supporting trading at the Kochi wholesale market.
Traders say many mills in northern India have increased their procurement of raw materials ahead of the monsoon season to secure supplies. As a result, domestic demand for pepper in India has remained high in recent days.
Pepper is currently being offered at 700 rupees/kg for uncleaned pepper and 720 rupees/kg for cleaned pepper. The volume of pepper arriving at the Kochi wholesale market is approximately 15-20 tons per trading session.
Kishore Shamji, from the Indian Pepper and Spice Trade Association, said that it is common for mills to ramp up their purchases before the monsoon season begins. The reason is that high humidity during the monsoon season can affect the quality of raw pepper.
Indian pepper production varies significantly across states.
Pepper production in Tamil Nadu has decreased significantly this season, estimated at less than 5,000 tons, far below the usual yield of 12,000-15,000 tons. According to Shamji, the main reason is climate change.
Karnataka state is experiencing a relatively normal pepper harvest. Many farmers there had previously held onto their stockpiles because coffee offered better prices. However, with coffee prices weakening, these farmers have now begun selling off their pepper reserves.
In Idukki district of Kerala state, pepper production is recorded at normal levels, with total output this year estimated at around 75,000-80,000 tonnes. Kerala remains India's largest pepper producing region.
Conversely, demand for pepper exports remains relatively sluggish due to shipping congestion related to the crisis in West Asia, exchange rate fluctuations, and US import tariffs. These three factors are hindering the recovery of global pepper export prices.
