Pepper prices today, June 20, 2025: Record sharp drop.
Today, June 20th, domestic pepper prices are at 127,500 - 129,000 VND/kg. Domestic pepper prices have dropped sharply by 5,000 to 6,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Pepper prices are also currently under significant pressure from global geopolitical instability.
Domestic pepper prices
Today's pepper prices in key growing regions have dropped sharply compared to yesterday, reaching a record low. As a result, the average domestic pepper price is between 127,500 VND/kg and 129,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak has dropped sharply by 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 129,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai decreased by 5000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 127,500 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Dak Nong decreased by 6,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 128,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is 128,000 VND/kg, down 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Dong Nai also saw a decrease of 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, now at 128,000 VND/kg.
Additionally, today's pepper price in Binh Phuoc decreased by 5000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently standing at 128,000 VND/kg.
Pepper prices fell due to global instability, but exports continued to increase in value thanks to quality and high demand from the US.
Along with the downward trend in coffee prices, pepper prices are currently under significant pressure from global geopolitical instability. The US Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged, escalating tensions in the Middle East, and the 90-day deadline for the application of the 46% retaliatory tariff from the US on Vietnamese pepper have made the market quieter in the short term.
However, unlike the rapid price surge of the previous decade, the sharp increase in pepper prices over the past two years has not triggered a widespread wave of new planting. In Gia Lai, a key pepper-growing region in the country, people remain cautious.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung (Ia Tiem commune, Chu Se district) said that although pepper prices improved from the end of 2023, the new planted area did not increase significantly. Many old pepper plantations have been converted to coffee and durian, with only a few households maintaining a few dozen pepper plants to utilize the empty land in their coffee gardens.
Despite a somewhat sluggish market, Vietnam's pepper exports still recorded positive results. According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first five months of 2025, Vietnam exported nearly 99,900 tons of pepper, earning approximately 690.4 million USD.
Despite a 12.5% decrease in production compared to the same period last year, export value increased sharply by 40.5%. The average export price of pepper reached US$6,910 per ton, a 61.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024, a record increase in many years.
The three largest markets for Vietnamese pepper account for nearly 41% of the volume and almost 44% of the total export value, with the United States continuing to be the leading market.
In the first five months of the year, the US spent nearly $185 million to import 24,687 tons of Vietnamese pepper. Although the import volume decreased by nearly 19%, the value increased by 34.8%, showing that American consumers and businesses still highly value the quality of Vietnamese pepper and are willing to pay more for products that meet standards.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on June 19th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices fell sharply compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,461/ton (down 0.76%). Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also dropped significantly compared to yesterday, reaching US$10,079/ton (down 0.76%).
Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,050 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices fell sharply compared to yesterday, currently standing at US$9,000/ton (down 1.11%). Additionally, ASTA white pepper prices also dropped significantly compared to yesterday, reaching US$11,750/ton (down 0.85%).
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$6,000/ton; and (550 gr/l) reached US$6,100/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,000 per ton.
