Pepper prices today, August 20, 2025: Maintaining high levels.
Today, August 20, 2025, pepper prices are at 141,000 - 143,000 VND/kg, maintaining a high level compared to yesterday. Pepper exports to the US increased sharply in the first half of August.
Domestic pepper prices
Today's pepper prices in key growing regions remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Therefore, the average domestic pepper price is between 140,000 VND/kg and 143,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 143,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 141,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Lam Dong (formerly Dak Nong) remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 143,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau) is 141,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Dong Nai also remains unchanged from yesterday at 141,000 VND/kg.
Additionally, today's pepper price in Dong Nai (formerly Binh Phuoc) remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 140,000 VND/kg.
According to Thanh Nien newspaper, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) reported that many export businesses are facing difficulties due to stalled orders, stemming from obstacles in the procedures for obtaining health certificates (HC).
Prior to July 1st, the issuance of food safety certificates was under the authority of the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health). However, after this date, according to Decree 148/2025, the responsibility is transferred to specialized agencies under the Provincial People's Committee or designated units. Nevertheless, many businesses reported that when contacting the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, they were told that there were no specific guidelines on the certificate issuance process and they had to continue waiting.
In this context, VPSA has recommended that the Ministry of Health take timely action. The immediate priority is to address the case of the pepper shipment exported to Morocco to avoid the situation where the goods are returned due to a lack of required documentation.
In addition, VPSA proposes the early issuance of guidelines on the customs clearance process, which would allow businesses to promptly provide documents to international partners, reduce container storage costs at ports, and help them comply with the regulations of Decree 148, thereby minimizing risks in the customs clearance process.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on August 18th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$7,208/ton. Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$10,076/ton.
Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $5,850 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,400/tonne. Similarly, ASTA white pepper prices also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$12,700/tonne.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$6,240/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$6,370/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,950 per ton.
According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPSA), in the first 17 days of August 2025, Vietnam exported 10,830 tons of pepper, earning $71.8 million. Compared to the same period in July, the volume decreased slightly by 0.2%, but the value increased by 2.1%, indicating an improvement in the average export price of pepper.
In terms of businesses, Simexco Dak Lak leads with 1,076 tons, followed by Olam Vietnam, Nedspice Vietnam, Haprosimex JSC, and Phuc Sinh. These are the units that account for the largest share of the country's total pepper exports.
By market, the US continued to lead with 2,205 tons, accounting for over 20% and increasing by nearly 50% compared to the previous month. Other markets such as China, UAE, Thailand, and the Netherlands maintained stable levels, contributing to the continued positive export performance.
On the import side, Vietnam imported 1,738 tons of pepper, worth $11.3 million. Compared to the previous month, the import volume increased by 3.7%, but the value decreased by 7.4%, reflecting a downward trend in average import prices. The main sources of supply were Cambodia, Brazil, and Indonesia.
