Pepper prices rose in the middle of last week but then reversed and fell. By the end of last week, domestic pepper prices fluctuated erratically in different localities compared to the previous week.

Specifically, pepper prices in Dak Nong and Dak Lak provinces decreased by 500 and 1000 VND/kg respectively last week. Conversely, pepper prices in Gia Lai and Binh Phuoc provinces increased by 1000 VND/kg compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, pepper prices remained unchanged in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces.

Domestic pepper prices are currently experiencing slight fluctuations as the harvest season reaches its peak. However, the market currently has several factors supporting relatively stable prices. Despite the main harvest season, the amount of pepper sold is not excessive because farmers are still holding onto their stock due to good income from the previous coffee crop. Simultaneously, demand from traders and speculators is also contributing to price stability.

Today's pepper prices (April 21st) on the world market.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on April 18th (local time) as follows:

Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$7,056/ton. Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also remained stable from yesterday at US$9,641/ton.

Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,800 per ton.

According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 14 days of April 2025 alone, Vietnam exported 10,413 tons of pepper, earning $72 million. Among the exporting companies, the top three were Olam with 1,467 tons, Phuc Sinh with 1,177 tons, and Nedspice with 750 tons.

In terms of consumption markets, the United States remains the largest destination for Vietnamese pepper, with export volume reaching 2,285 tons, accounting for nearly 22% of total exports. This is followed by India with 1,227 tons and Germany with 827 tons.

However, with changes in US tax policy, many businesses are temporarily halting production, awaiting the outcome of negotiations before deciding on their next steps. If the negotiations do not yield positive results, the Vietnamese pepper industry could lose market share in the US to competitors such as Indonesia or Brazil. Therefore, many businesses are considering expanding into other markets.
