Pepper prices today, August 21, 2025: Dealers significantly increase prices.
Today, August 21, 2025, pepper prices are at 141,000 - 143,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. However, dealers in the Central Highlands have increased pepper prices by up to 5,000 VND compared to the listed price.
Domestic pepper prices
Today's pepper prices in key growing regions remain unchanged compared to yesterday. Therefore, the average domestic pepper price is between 140,000 VND/kg and 143,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands region, today's pepper price in Dak Lak remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 143,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Gia Lai remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 141,000 VND/kg.
Today's pepper price in Lam Dong (formerly Dak Nong) remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 143,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, today's pepper price in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau) is 141,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. Dong Nai also remains unchanged from yesterday at 141,000 VND/kg.
Additionally, today's pepper price in Dong Nai (formerly Binh Phuoc) remains unchanged compared to yesterday, currently at 140,000 VND/kg.
Pepper prices are currently a topic of particular interest to growers and traders. This is because the reciprocal tax rate has not yet been adjusted to the expected level that many people had hoped for.
At some dealers in the Central Highlands, the price of pepper is currently listed at around 148,000 VND/kg. This figure is 3,000 to 5,000 VND/kg higher than at the beginning of August.
However, current prices are still much lower than the optimistic forecasts at the beginning of the year. At that time, many believed that pepper prices could reach 180,000 or even 200,000 VND/kg due to limited supply.
In anticipation of those forecasts, many farmers bought pepper at 150,000 - 160,000 VND/kg to stockpile. However, subsequent price developments did not meet expectations. Under the impact of taxes, pepper prices plummeted to a low of 120,000 VND/kg, and although they have partially recovered, many are still incurring losses.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that over 90% of our country's pepper production is for export. This makes the entire industry highly dependent on unpredictable fluctuations in the global market.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on August 20th (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices reversed course and fell compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,173/ton (down 0.49%). Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also decreased slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$10,027/ton (down 0.49%).
Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $5,850 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,400/tonne. Similarly, ASTA white pepper prices also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$12,700/tonne.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$6,240/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$6,370/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,950 per ton.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 17 days of August 2025, the country exported 10,830 tons of pepper, earning $71.8 million. Although production remained almost unchanged compared to the same period in July, thanks to higher selling prices, export value still increased by 2.1%.
The US continued to be the largest market, importing 2,205 tons, an increase of nearly 50% compared to the previous month. Other markets included China, the UAE, Thailand, and the Netherlands. Conversely, Vietnam imported 1,738 tons of pepper, mainly from Cambodia, Brazil, and Indonesia.
Experts predict that domestic pepper prices will remain stable in the coming days as supply and demand have not shown significant changes. However, increased demand from major markets such as the US and China is expected to provide impetus, potentially pushing pepper prices up towards the end of August and the beginning of September.
Among exporting companies, Simexco Dak Lak unexpectedly rose to the top position with 1,076 tons, accounting for nearly 10% of the market share. Following behind were Olam Vietnam with 1,002 tons, Nedspice Vietnam with 833 tons, Haprosimex JSC with 803 tons, and Phuc Sinh with 611 tons.
