According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 16 days of October 2025, Vietnam exported 9,056 tons of pepper, earning $59.9 million. Compared to the same period in September, the export price of pepper decreased by 14.1% in volume and 13.6% in value.

The largest import markets for Vietnamese pepper remain the US, UAE, and Thailand, with volumes reaching 1,860 tons, 963 tons, and 431 tons respectively. Exports to China accounted for only 3.6% of the total volume, equivalent to 328 tons, indicating a significant decline in this market.

The three largest pepper exporting companies in the first half of October were Nedspice Vietnam (1,105 tons), Olam (813 tons), and Phuc Sinh (768 tons), continuing to lead the market.

According to VPSA, during the same period, Vietnam imported 516 tons of pepper worth 3.6 million USD. Compared to the previous month, the import volume decreased by 48.3% and the value decreased by 41.9%. The main sources of imported pepper were Brazil (accounting for 51.7%) and Cambodia (23.3%).

Nedspice Vietnam continues to be the largest importer of pepper, accounting for approximately 31% of total imports. The decrease in imports indicates limited domestic supply and also reflects the trend of businesses stockpiling in anticipation of better prices.

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), although pepper prices and export turnover to the US decreased in the first nine months of 2025, this is only temporary due to market adjustments in response to the new tax policy. Vietnam still has an advantage thanks to lower tax rates compared to Brazil and India, and a stable supply helps the pepper industry maintain its position in this market.

The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) also affirmed that the 20% retaliatory tariff applied by the US to imports from Vietnam has not had a significant impact. The US market remains a potential destination for Vietnamese pepper prices in the coming period, as demand recovers strongly after a period of adjustment.

Currently, domestic pepper inventories are only around 30,000-35,000 tons, lower than the 10-year average. Meanwhile, import demand from China, India, and the US is increasing again, creating an opportunity for pepper prices to recover in the last quarter of the year.

The Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) advises farmers not to sell in bulk when pepper prices rise, but to divide their sales into smaller quantities to reduce risk. Reinvesting in pepper plantations, replacing aging areas, and adopting organic farming models will help maintain sustainable production.

For export businesses, signing long-term contracts and developing stable raw material sources are considered key strategies during periods of fluctuating pepper prices. Vietnam currently accounts for 35% of global pepper production, while major suppliers such as Brazil and Indonesia are both experiencing declines.

However, if pepper prices rise too rapidly, a sharp correction in the first quarter of 2026 is possible. The pepper industry needs to focus on quality, clear traceability, and exchange rate risk management to maintain sustainable development.
