Today, August 25, 2024, the price of pepper is in the range of 143,000-144,000 VND/kg, a decrease of 1,000 VND compared to yesterday.

Specifically, the price of pepper in Dak Lak is being purchased at 144,000 VND/kg, a slight decrease of 1,000 VND compared to yesterday. The price of pepper in Chu Se (Gia Lai) is being purchased at 143,000 VND/kg, also a slight decrease of 1,000 VND compared to yesterday. The price of pepper in Dak Nong today is recorded at 144,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, pepper prices today showed mixed trends compared to yesterday. Specifically, in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the price is currently at 143,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND compared to yesterday; in Binh Phuoc, the price is at 143,000 VND/kg, up 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Mr. Hoang Phuoc Binh, Vice Chairman of the Chu Se Pepper Association, commented that this year's pepper market is not as stable as in previous years and predicts a shortage of goods before the new harvest season around January.
The pepper harvest season in Vietnam usually runs from January to April. In Quang Tri, the harvest season can extend until the end of June, but the quantity is not as large.
Farmers are expressing concern because some pepper gardens are not bearing fruit this season, while others are hoping for a bountiful harvest, depending on weather conditions.
Today's world pepper prices
According to the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the close of the most recent trading session, the IPC listed Indonesian Lampung black pepper at US$7,490/ton (up 0.15%) and Muntok white pepper at US$8,818/ton (up 0.15%).
Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper prices rose to US$6,300/ton. Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained stable at US$8,500/ton; Malaysian ASTA white pepper prices reached US$10,400/ton.
Vietnamese black pepper prices remained high, trading at US$5,800/ton for the 500 g/l variety; US$6,200/ton for the 550 g/l variety; and white pepper at US$8,500/ton.
Mr. Duong Duc Quang, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), announced that domestic pepper prices have remained high since the beginning of 2024. The reason for the high prices is the shortage of supply, with a significant decrease in pepper cultivation area, leading to reduced production that cannot keep up with market demand.
Domestic pepper production in 2024 is projected to be around 170,000 tons, the lowest in the past five years. The supply shortage is not only occurring in Vietnam but also globally, with a predicted deficit of 64,000 tons.
The scarcity of supply both domestically and internationally has helped maintain high pepper prices, thereby generating large export revenues despite a decrease in export volume.
