Domestic pepper prices remain stable after two consecutive days of sharp increases, indicating a temporary pause in the market as it awaits further signals from export activities and international developments. According to many farmers and traders, the current price is still considered quite good, especially when compared to the same period last year.

Some industry experts believe that pepper prices are likely to remain high next week, fluctuating between 139,000 and 140,000 VND/kg. If exports improve and domestic supply continues to decline, pepper prices could increase by another 1,000 to 2,000 VND/kg, especially in key producing regions such as Dak Lak and Lam Dong.

However, the market still faces potential risks, such as a recovery in pepper prices in Brazil and Indonesia, or difficulties in exports due to unresolved VAT refund policies. These factors could cause pepper prices to remain stable or experience a slight downward adjustment in the near future.

Today's pepper prices on the world market.

On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on August 2nd (Hanoi time) as follows:

Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$7,063 per ton. Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also remained unchanged from yesterday at US$9,873 per ton.

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained stable at $6,000 per ton.

Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at US$8,900/ton. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country remained stable at US$11,750/ton.

Prices of various types of Vietnamese pepper remained stable compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$6,140/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$6,270/ton.

Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper compared to yesterday reached US$8,850/ton.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) believes that the recent decline in pepper exports to the US market may only be a temporary phenomenon, occurring as the market adjusts before new tariff policies are implemented.

It is expected that from Q4 2025 to Q1 2026, US importing businesses will begin increasing orders to stockpile for the peak consumption season, thereby opening up opportunities for the recovery of Vietnamese pepper exports.

Vietnam currently enjoys a certain tariff advantage over many competitors such as India, Sri Lanka, and Brazil. Coupled with stable supply, these factors reinforce expectations that pepper exports to the US will rebound in the second half of 2025, especially as demand recovers and US businesses increase their stockpiling.

In the early morning of August 1, 2025 (Vietnam time), the White House announced President Donald Trump's Executive Order on adjusting reciprocal tariffs. Accordingly, the reciprocal tariff on goods from Vietnam has been reduced from 46% to 20%. This is lower than the 25% that the US applies to goods from India and equivalent to Sri Lanka, but still higher than the 19% applied to other countries in the region such as Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Brazil is subject to the highest tariff at 50%, effective from August 6th.
