Domestic pepper prices have ended a seven-day winning streak as they unexpectedly reversed course and fell over the past two days. The main reason is believed to be profit-taking pressure from farmers and traders after a prolonged period of price increases.
With pepper prices approaching 150,000 VND/kg in recent days, many producers have taken advantage of the high prices to sell their produce.
The simultaneous selling by many farmers has led to a sharp increase in short-term supply, thereby putting pressure on domestic pepper prices. This is a natural market reaction as producers seek to maximize profits from the unusually high prices.
However, experts believe this adjustment is short-term. The reason is that the supply from farmers is no longer as abundant as in previous months, and the main harvest is also gradually running out. This indicates that the actual supply is still scarce.
In the medium and long term, as global consumer demand recovers, especially in major markets such as the US, EU, and the Middle East, pepper prices are projected to resume their upward trend. They could even surpass 150,000 VND/kg if supporting factors emerge simultaneously.
International trade factors are also influencing market sentiment. Although Vietnam and some major partners such as the US and China have seen positive signs in agricultural trade recently, export orders for pepper have not shown any clear breakthrough in early July.
The global market also showed mixed trends, with pepper prices in Indonesia and Brazil fluctuating between increases and decreases, adding further pressure on domestic prices. This volatility indicates that the global market is in a phase of searching for a new, stable price level.
