Domestic pepper prices are currently fluctuating between VND145,000 and VND147,000 per kilogram, maintaining a stable trend over the past several weeks. With global demand continuing to increase, Vietnamese pepper is forecast to set a new record when export turnover exceeds the USD1.5 billion mark in 2025. This is a positive signal for the pepper industry after many years of strong fluctuations in output and price.

According to traders, the domestic pepper market is being affected by two main factors. First, the purchasing demand of export enterprises has temporarily slowed down, as they are waiting for clearer signals from exchange rates and international transportation costs. Second, the supply among the people is limited, as farmers tend to hold on to their goods, expecting pepper prices to increase at the end of the year to sell more profitably.

Since the beginning of 2025, Vietnam has imported more than 37,700 tons of pepper, an increase of more than 25% in volume and 65.6% in value compared to the same period last year. This is a record high import level, exceeding the total import volume of 2024. Experts say that the increase in imports reflects the proactive strategy of large enterprises in sourcing raw materials, while taking advantage of competitive prices from major producing countries such as Brazil and Indonesia.

World pepper prices today

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 7,111 USD/ton (up 0.03%), and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,749 USD/ton (up 0.02%).

Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper prices stood at USD 6,100/ton. Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained stable at USD 9,200/ton; the country’s ASTA white pepper prices reached USD 12,300/ton.

Vietnam's black pepper price today is stable at a high level, trading at 6,400 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,600 USD/ton; white pepper price at 9,050 USD/ton.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 206,427 tons of pepper of all kinds, earning 1.39 billion USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume decreased by 5.9% but the value increased by 25.4%. The average export price of black pepper reached 6,628 USD/ton and white pepper reached 8,683 USD/ton, up 36.6% and 34.4% respectively compared to 2024. This increase shows that the value of Vietnamese pepper is being improved thanks to good quality and strong global demand.

Thanks to high export prices and deep processing efforts by businesses, the pepper industry has maintained impressive growth momentum despite declining output. By the end of October, export turnover had reached nearly 1.4 billion USD, surpassing the 1.3 billion USD mark for the whole year of 2024 and nearly reaching the record of 1.43 billion USD reached in 2016 - the peak period of the Vietnamese pepper industry. This is considered a positive sign, reflecting the strong recovery of the market after many years of fluctuations.

On the other hand, pepper imports to Vietnam have also increased sharply in both volume and value. By the end of October 2025, Vietnam had imported 37,783 tons, reaching a turnover of 236.9 million USD, up 25.3% in volume and 65.6% in value over the same period last year. Compared to 2023, the import volume increased by 67.9%. This is the highest import level ever, far exceeding the 30,295 tons of the whole year of 2024, showing that domestic enterprises are proactively supplying raw materials for processing and re-export.
