Gold prices on December 21st: SJC gold increases by 200,000 VND, gold ring prices show mixed results.
Global gold prices rose due to expectations of a Fed interest rate cut, while the domestic market showed strong divergence. SJC gold bars saw a slight increase, while gold ring prices moved in the opposite direction.
World gold prices continue their upward trend.
On the international market, the spot gold price in Asia on the morning of December 21st rose by more than $36 per ounce, equivalent to 0.84%, compared to the end of last week. This upward trend reflects gold's role as a safe haven asset amidst global economic uncertainties.
The main driver of the rally came from cooling inflation data in the US. The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) for November rose 2.7% year-on-year, lower than the forecast of 3.1%. This reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will ease monetary policy next year.
Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee also supported this view, stating that the downward inflation trend "could pave the way for deeper interest rate cuts."

In addition, weakening US consumer confidence is also a factor supporting gold prices. According to a University of Michigan survey, this index reached only 52.9 points in December 2025, a historically low level, indicating that concerns about inflation and declining purchasing power still persist.
Geopolitical tensions, particularly the Russia-Ukraine conflict, have also contributed to the increased demand for safe-haven assets like gold.
