According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:00 p.m. on August 26, Vietnam time, was 3,377.02 USD/ounce. This afternoon's gold price increased by 10.47 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,520 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 107.97 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of gold bars is 19.73 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

In the domestic market, the price of SJC gold bars set a new record when it increased by VND500,000/tael, reaching a new record of VND128 million/tael at Ngoc Tham. SJC gold rings of 1-5 chi also increased by VND500,000/tael, reaching VND122.2 million/tael. At Doji, the price of 9999 gold rings increased by VND500,000/tael compared to the previous session, ranging from VND119.3 to VND122.3 million/tael.

Gold prices rose to a two-week high as the US dollar fell after US President Donald Trump fired Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, a move that is seen as undermining confidence in US assets and the independence of the central bank.

The 0.2% drop in the dollar index also made gold cheaper for investors holding other currencies. Last Friday, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell hinted at a possible rate cut at next month’s meeting. He said risks to the labor market were rising but inflation remained a threat, and a final decision had yet to be made.

Investors are now awaiting the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) report due on Friday. This is the Fed's preferred inflation measure, and it will provide clues on the path of US interest rate cuts.

SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund (ETF), said its holdings rose to 958.49 tonnes from 956.77 tonnes on Monday.

Besides gold prices, spot silver prices increased 0.4% to 38.71 USD/ounce, platinum decreased slightly 0.2% to 1,340.10 USD/ounce, and palladium increased 0.7% to 1,093.95 USD/ounce.
