According to Kitco News, after two consecutive weeks of declines, the gold market regained momentum and surpassed the $4,700/ounce mark. Some analysts consider yesterday's increase unexpected given the market's many uncertainties. Gold broke through short-term resistance after Iran and the US acknowledged some progress toward a lasting peace agreement, although the ceasefire remains complicated due to escalating tensions ahead of the weekend.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices remaining below $100 per barrel suggest that renewed conflict in the Middle East has had only a limited impact on energy markets. Well-controlled energy prices help reduce inflationary pressure, allowing time for the gold market to recover.
Neil Welsh, Head of Metals at Britannia Global Markets, believes that sentiment surrounding the conflict with Iran is beginning to shift. This shift in behavior is helping to stabilize gold prices even as oil prices and stock markets fluctuate independently of traditional crisis patterns."
Ole Hansen, Head of Commodity Strategy at Saxo Bank, shared this view. "The market seems to have desensitized to the conflict in the Middle East, assuming neither side wants to provoke further conflict. However, we still have a long way to go to reach a peace agreement. Both sides are seeking a deal they can call a win," Hansen said.
