On the afternoon of December 18th, the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police announced that they had initiated a criminal case, indicted the suspect, and temporarily detained Vo Chi Thanh (born in 1992, residing in Thuy Chau ward, Huong Thuy town, Thua Thien Hue province) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
Vo Chi Thanh defrauded many people, appropriating more than 25 billion VND.
As a credit officer at a bank located in Thua Thien Hue province, Vo Chi Thanh had many acquaintances. Among them was a customer residing in Xuan Phu ward (Hue City) who regularly deposited savings at the bank where Thanh worked.
During this time, Thanh repeatedly borrowed money from this customer to handle bank loan renewals for them. At the same time, Thanh also invited this customer to jointly invest in real estate. Due to their long-standing relationship, when Thanh asked to borrow money for bank loan renewals, the customer trusted him and repeatedly transferred money to him.
The investigating agency served the decision to prosecute and detain Vo Chi Thanh.
However, after receiving the money, Thanh did not process the loan renewal for the customer but used the entire amount to pay off his personal debts. It is known that this customer had transferred money to Thanh three times as a loan, totaling 8.3 billion VND.
Continuing the investigation, using the tactic of borrowing money to refinance bank loans and invest in real estate, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency determined that Thanh had also defrauded many other people. The total amount of money the suspect embezzled from the victims is over 25 billion VND.
Currently, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police are continuing to gather evidence to prosecute the suspect.
