At the trial, Lau Ba Lenh confessed that around July 2015, a man named Khang (or Khuong, address unknown) called and asked Lenh to buy 3kg of opium. Lenh was afraid of being arrested, so he refused.
On the afternoon of September 8, 2015, Lenh went to Laos to sell motorcycle parts, clothes, and buy cattle. He took an additional 33 million dong with him. After selling 2 million dong worth of goods, Lenh went to a village to buy cattle and met a man named Lo. This man offered Lenh opium at 15 million dong per kilogram, but Lenh offered 38 million dong for 3 kilograms, which the Laotian man agreed to. Lenh paid 35 million dong, owing 3 million dong.
While transporting opium back to Vietnam, Lenh received a phone call from Khang asking if he had bought the opium yet and arranging to meet at his house the next morning to inspect the goods. On the morning of September 12, 2015, Khang and a friend came to Lenh's house to inspect the opium and agreed to buy it for 24 million VND per kilogram, instructing Lenh to deliver it to Muong Xen town (Ky Son district). Upon arriving in Muong Xen town, Lenh was discovered and arrested by the Ky Son District Police.
At the police station, Lềnh admitted to all of his actions. After considering the circumstances, the court sentenced Lầu Bá Lềnh to 15 years in prison for illegally trafficking narcotics.
