Oil prices today, September 13: World oil prices plummeted due to excess supply and weak demand from the US, overwhelming concerns about geopolitical factors.

World oil prices today

As of 4:00 a.m. on September 13, world oil prices continued to decline. Brent crude fell 0.83% to $65.82/barrel, while US WTI crude fell 0.91% to $61.80/barrel. This was the second consecutive decline, erasing the previous increase of the week.

Oil prices fell sharply during the session due to the dual pressure from excess supply and a not-so-bright demand outlook from the US.

Data showed US inflation rose at its fastest pace in seven months in August, along with a jump in jobless claims, dampening hopes of a strong recovery in demand.

The downward pressure on prices was reinforced by a report from the International Energy Agency (IEA). The IEA said that global oil supplies will increase faster than expected this year, mainly due to the planned increase in production from OPEC+.

OPEC+’s decision to extend its production quotas from October has contributed to the ample supply. Saudi Arabia, the group’s leader, is boosting exports to China. Aramco is expected to export 1.65 million barrels per day in October, up sharply from September, according to sources.

In Russia, oil and oil product exports fell to their lowest level since the conflict in Ukraine in August, while the US reported a 3.9 million barrel increase in crude oil inventories to 424.6 million barrels, putting further pressure on oil prices.

- Kerosene price increased by 54 VND to 18,368 VND/liter.
