Today's fuel prices (September 13th): World oil prices plummet due to oversupply and weak US demand, overshadowing concerns about geopolitical factors.
World oil prices today
As of 4:00 AM on September 13th, world oil prices continued to fall. Brent crude dropped 0.83% to $65.82 per barrel, while US WTI crude lost 0.91% to $61.80 per barrel. This marks the second consecutive day of declines, erasing earlier gains this week.
Oil prices fell sharply during the session due to the combined pressure of oversupply and a bleak outlook for US demand.
Data showed that US inflation in August rose at its fastest pace in seven months, along with a surge in unemployment benefit claims. This dashed expectations of a strong demand recovery.
Downward price pressure intensified following a report from the International Energy Agency (IEA). The IEA predicted that global oil supply this year will increase faster than expected, primarily due to production increases planned by OPEC+.
OPEC+'s decision to continue increasing production quotas from October has contributed to ample supply. Saudi Arabia, the bloc's leader, is boosting exports to China. According to sources, Aramco expects to export 1.65 million barrels per day in October, a sharp increase from September.
In Russia, revenue from oil and petroleum product exports in August fell to its lowest level since the conflict in Ukraine began. Meanwhile, the US recorded a 3.9 million barrel increase in crude oil inventories, reaching 424.6 million barrels, a factor that further pressured oil prices.
Domestic oil prices today
Domestic fuel prices were adjusted today, effective from 3 PM on September 11th, with gasoline slightly decreasing while diesel and kerosene both increased.
The retail prices of gasoline and diesel in Vietnam on September 13th are as follows:
- The price of E5 RON92 gasoline decreased by 95 dong to a maximum of 19,756 dong/liter.
- The price of RON95 gasoline decreased by 39 dong, to no more than 20,400 dong/liter.
- Diesel fuel prices increased by 170 dong to 18,643 dong/liter.
- The price of kerosene increased by 54 dong, reaching 18,368 dong/liter.
- Fuel oil prices decreased by 286 VND, to a maximum of 15,090 VND/kg.
During this price adjustment period, the Inter-Ministerial Committee continues to neither allocate funds to nor disburse funds from the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund for all products, including gasoline and diesel.
Since the beginning of 2025, gasoline prices have experienced 21 increases, 14 decreases, and one period of alternating increases and decreases. This continuous fluctuation reflects the impact of the global crude oil market as well as domestic supply and demand.
