Overview of VinFast VF 9 in Vietnam

The VinFast VF 9, VinFast's flagship large electric SUV (E-SUV), was first introduced at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show under the name VF e36. It officially launched as the VF 9 at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), reaffirming the brand's strategy of focusing entirely on electric vehicles. The first VF 9s were delivered to Vietnamese customers on March 27, 2023.

In the E-segment SUV category, the VinFast VF 9 competes with models such as the Ford Explorer, Volkswagen Teramont, and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

The exterior design is imposing and modern.

The VinFast VF 9 has dimensions of 5,118 x 2,254 x 1,696 mm (Length x Width x Height) and a wheelbase of 3,150 mm, comparable to large luxury SUVs. The car's design is powerful and muscular, with embossed lines on the hood and body.

The front of the car is distinguished by its V-shaped LED daytime running lights, a signature feature of VinFast. The door handles are designed to be hidden, contributing to improved aerodynamics and a seamless, luxurious appearance. The rear of the car also uses a V-shaped LED light strip, synchronized with the front. Depending on the version, the car is equipped with multi-spoke wheels in 20 or 21-inch sizes.

The interior space is minimalist and technology-focused.

The interior of the VF 9 is designed in a minimalist style, focusing on the driver and passenger. The main highlight is the 15.6-inch central touchscreen, which serves as the instrument panel, infotainment system, and controls most of the car's functions. Behind the D-cut steering wheel, there is no traditional instrument cluster.

The vehicle is available in 6 or 7-seat configurations. In the 6-seat version, the second row features captain's chairs, offering ample and luxurious seating space. Materials used in the cabin include leather (depending on the version) and premium trim details. Notable amenities include a 2- or 3-zone automatic climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, a 13-speaker sound system, and an 8-inch entertainment screen for the rear seats.

Drivetrain and operating performance

The VinFast VF 9 is equipped with two electric motors, delivering a total maximum power of 402 horsepower and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. This power is transmitted to all four wheels via a full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) system, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 6.5 seconds.

The vehicle uses a 92 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. According to the manufacturer, the Eco version has a range of approximately 438 km and the Plus version has a range of 423 km on a single full charge. Fast charging using a DC stand takes less than 26 minutes to go from 10% to 70%.

Advanced safety technology

The VF 9 is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) package featuring adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, and automatic braking to minimize collisions. The car also comes with 11 airbags and a 360-degree camera. VinFast aims for the vehicle to achieve the highest safety standards, such as 5-star ratings from Euro NCAP, NHTSA, and ASEAN NCAP.
