Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Hai commune (Phu Vang district, Thua Thien - Hue province), said:At approximately 4 PM on April 23rd, several fishermen discovered a whale weighing about 100 kg stranded on the beach of Cu Lai Dong village (Phu Hai commune). Seeing that the whale was still alive, the locals quickly pushed it back out to sea. Before swimming away, some people managed to take pictures. Afterward, the whale was not seen returning to shore.

"In addition to discovering the small whale stranded on the shore, the locality has also recorded several dead marine fish recently," Mr. Binh added.

However, the exact nature of the toxic substance remains unknown. Since April 15th, many coastal districts of Thua Thien Hue province have reported dead fish washing ashore. Authorities suspect the toxic substance originated in the waters off Ha Tinh province and traveled to Hue via ocean currents, causing the fish deaths. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development are jointly investigating the cause.
