From September 2020 to September 2023, Chau Dong Trung (residing in Vinh Phuc hamlet, Cai Dau town, Chau Phu district, An Giang province) was appointed Director of the Chau Phu Branch of the Land Registration Office (An Giang province). Taking advantage of his position as Director, from January 1, 2021 to June 15, 2022, Trung instructed employees of the Chau Phu Branch of the Land Registration Office to waive land registration service fees for himself and 55 of his relatives for 76 land-related files, causing a loss to the State budget of 94,902,954 VND.
Previously, in connection with the case, the Investigation Police Department of An Giang province issued a decision to prosecute and a travel ban against Le Minh Phuong (born in 1981, residing in Vinh Phuc hamlet, Cai Dau town, Chau Phu district, An Giang province), former cashier and employee responsible for returning land-related documents at the Chau Phu Branch of the Land Registration Office, to investigate the crime of "embezzlement of property".
