FBI director says Russian intelligence poses a major threat to the U.S.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to the Russian news agency TASS, the newspaper Hill recently quoted the Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as saying that the traditional counterintelligence threat from Russia continues to be a cause for concern.
Specifically, on September 9, TASS reported that FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that Russian intelligence agencies maintain a presence in the United States and pose a serious threat.
"The traditional Russian counterintelligence threat continues to be present," the FBI director told The Hill. Wray also pointed out: "The footprint of Russian intelligence, and by that I mean Russian intelligence officers, remains very strong in the United States."
The FBI director added, "And that's something we're constantly facing and trying to prevent, deter, and disrupt in every way we can." According to him, the U.S. has made "very positive, significant strides" in this direction in recent years.
In June, Maria Zabolotskaya, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated at a meeting of the Committee on Relations with the Host Country that US intelligence agencies were exerting psychological pressure on Russian mission staff at the international organization.
According to her, the US continues to implement various measures and restrictions aimed at reducing the effectiveness of interaction between Russian diplomats and the United Nations. In particular, recruitment efforts by US intelligence agencies have intensified.
