On May 22, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of Pham Thi Huong (born 1953), residing in Hau Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) for the crime of "Murder". The victim in the case is the granddaughter of Nguyen Thi Thanh T. (born 2008).
According to the investigation agency's documents, at noon on November 3, 2019, after the lottery ceremony at the temple, Ms. Huong went to her sister's house to play. At this time, Mr. Nguyen Duy Chung (Huong's son) came by motorbike but did not greet his mother, making Ms. Huong upset, thinking that her son was "sulky and stubborn" towards her. Not wanting to see her son's face, Ms. Huong took her bicycle and left her sister's house.
At 1:30 p.m. the same day, Mrs. Huong was riding her bicycle to buy beer on credit to resell for profit when she met Nguyen Thi Thanh T. (Chung's daughter) riding an electric bicycle with her friends. T. greeted her and said she was going to a friend's birthday party.
At 4:00 p.m. the same day, Pham Thi Huong met T again. T. asked Mrs. Huong if she was going anywhere so she could take him. Mrs. Huong answered “no”, then T. invited his grandmother to visit a relative’s house. Mrs. Huong agreed, so she parked her bike and got on T.’s bike.

A while later, on the way home, Mrs. Huong and T. talked about Chung. Mrs. Huong said, “Don’t mention your father, it gives me a headache.” But T. continued to talk about his father, making Mrs. Huong angry and thinking, “If you can’t control the father, then control the son.”
At this time, T. took her to Bau Ganh dam in Hau Thanh commune. When she got there, Mrs. Huong told T. she wanted to go into the dam to wash herself. Huong wanted T. to go with her to wash herself. Because she had the intention of killing her grandson, Mrs. Huong tricked T. into going deeper inside to hide from the public.

(Baonghean.vn) - Early this morning (November 5), relatives and authorities found the body of Nguyen Thi Tam (born 2008, 6th grade student, residing in Hau Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district - Nghe An), who went missing on her way home from a friend's birthday party.
While scrubbing Mrs. Huong's back, T. poked her armpit, causing her to almost fall. Because she was angry with Mr. Chung, Mrs. Huong used all her strength to push T., causing her to fall into the water. Mrs. Huong also fell, but because she was closer to the edge of the dam, she was able to hold onto the stone embankment and climb up the bank. Pham Thi Huong sat on the bank and looked down into the water for about 3 minutes but did not see her grandchild, so she knew that she was dead and went home.
After killing her grandchild, Mrs. Huong remained calm as if nothing had happened and even bought a bus ticket to Hanoi.
On November 4, Chung's family filed a missing person report for T. On November 5, 2019, Huong went to the police to surrender.
At court, the defendant initially denied the crime but later admitted to killing the child. The defendant asked for a lighter sentence, and the victim’s family filed a petition for a lighter sentence for Ms. Huong.
Considering the case comprehensively, the People's Court sentenced defendant Pham Thi Huong to 12 years in prison for "Murder"./.
