Killing a neighbor, sentenced to life imprisonment.
(Baonghean) - On August 9th, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to hear the murder case against Luong Tran Chu (born in 1965), residing in Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district. The victim in the case was Luong Van Nghi (born in 1971), from the same village.
According to the indictment, a dispute arose between Luong Tran Chu and Luong Van Nghi regarding land transactions. On June 16th, Chu met with Nghi, and an argument ensued. Subsequently, Chu went to Nghi's house demanding the return of the sugarcane plantation land that Chu had purchased from him, leading to mutual threats and challenges between the two.
Luong Tran Chu ran to buy a knife and returned to Nghi's house. Seeing Chu with the knife, Nghi grabbed a scraper and hit Chu twice on the shoulder. Chu then stabbed Nghi multiple times. The victim, wounded, turned and tried to run away, but Chu chased after him and continued stabbing him.

After committing the crime, Luong Tran Chu fled. The victim, Nghi, was taken to the hospital but died later. On the morning of April 17th, Luong Tran Chu surrendered to the Nghia Dan District Police.
Based on the defendant's testimony, witness statements at the trial, and documents collected during the investigation, and considering aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel of judges sentenced Luong Tran Chu to life imprisonment.
In addition, the court ordered the defendant to pay the victim's family over 100 million VND in compensation.
