On December 20th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court held a first-instance trial and sentenced defendant Hoang Long Son (born in 1988, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to life imprisonment for two charges: "Murder" and "Intentional infliction of injury".

According to the indictment, at 0:00 on January 24, 2014, Hoang Long Son and his group of friends organized a meal and karaoke session at You restaurant (175-177 Phan Xich Long Street, Ward 7, Phu Nhuan District).

Early the next morning, while waiting to pick up his car to go home, Son noticed a child's seat in Nguyen Quoc Hung's car (who was also a karaoke customer), so Son took it to play around with his friends.

Hung and Hung (Hung's friend) asked Son to bring a chair so they could take their child home, but Son raised his voice, leading to a conflict. Son's group then attacked Hung, causing him to collapse on the spot.

Before leaving the scene, Son even gave his phone number and challenged them to call the police. Hung was taken to the hospital by local residents but died later due to a head injury.

Following an investigation, Hoang Long Son was arrested by the Ho Chi Minh City Police on January 9, 2015.
