The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that it had received a report dated December 22, 2016, from the State Capital Management Department at Sabeco regarding Mr. Vu Quang Hai's resignation letter dated December 21, 2016, to the Sabeco Board of Directors.
Based on this report, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will review and direct the State Capital Management Department to provide feedback to the Board of Directors and the General Meeting of Shareholders on resolving Mr. Vu Quang Hai's petition in accordance with the law and Sabeco's charter.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is also actively implementing the conclusions of the Central Inspection Committee regarding the Ministry's personnel work in the recent past, including the transfer of Mr. Vu Quang Hai from the Ministry of Industry and Trade to work at Sabeco.
Also related to personnel matters at Sabeco, at the request of the State Capital Management Department and in order to further improve the company's personnel management, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has decided to appoint Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Deputy General Director of Sabeco, as the representative of the state capital and nominate him to participate in the Board of Directors.
Mr. Vu Quang Hai is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Director of Sabeco. The process of appointing Mr. Vu Quang Hai to this position has raised many questions in public opinion recently.
The Central Party Secretariat has concluded that Mr. Vu Huy Hoang, former Central Party Committee member, former Secretary of the Party Committee, and former Minister of Industry and Trade, lacked exemplary conduct and showed signs of self-serving behavior in the appointment of his son, Vu Quang Hai, as a supervisor at the Vietnam Tobacco Corporation; and in the decision to transfer and nominate Mr. Vu Quang Hai to participate in the Sabeco Board of Directors to be elected as a Board member and Deputy General Director. This violated the Central Committee's regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and the Secretariat's regulations on the exemplary conduct of cadres and Party members, as well as violating the Law on Prevention and Combat of Corruption, causing public outrage.
