TBR 97 - A rice variety suitable for harsh climatic conditions.

The visiting group visited a rice field planted with the TBR 97 variety in Hoa Son commune, Do Luong district. The first impression was the flat, disease-free golden rice field, while the surrounding rice fields were flattened by storms. This demonstrates the superior advantage of the TBR 97 rice variety in withstanding harsh weather conditions.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dan, Director of Hoa Son Agricultural Service Cooperative, the TBR 97 rice variety has been grown consistently for three seasons in this commune on an area of over 300 hectares, always achieving high yields. In the 2024-2025 winter-spring season, despite fluctuating weather conditions, from low temperatures to unusual rain and wind, the TBR 97 variety still developed well, without pest or disease problems, especially diseases like brown spot and blast.

"We are very confident with this rice variety; the yield is always stable, averaging over 7 tons/ha, and especially the rice grains are very firm, with no empty grains," Mr. Dan shared.

Not only does TBR 97 rice have good resistance to weather and pests, but it also has very good rice quality. TBR 97 rice has long, translucent grains, a soft texture, a light aroma, a rich flavor, and a sticky consistency, making it very suitable for the taste of local people. This is also one of the factors that makes this rice variety a top choice for farmers.

TBR 97 is a pure rice variety, researched, produced, and exclusively distributed by ThaiBinh Seed. This variety has wide adaptability and tolerates intensive cultivation well. With a short growing season of only 105 to 125 days depending on the crop, TBR 97 is particularly suitable for farming conditions in Nghe An province.

The TBR 97 rice variety grows to a height of 90 to 100 cm, has a sturdy stem, strong tillering, and concentrated flowering. It is particularly resistant to lodging and pests and diseases. In the winter-spring season, yields reach 70 to 75 quintals/hectare, potentially 75 to 80 quintals/hectare with intensive cultivation. In the summer-autumn season, yields range from 60 to 65 quintals/hectare. This is one of the rice varieties that provides stable yields and high-quality rice.

Thai Xuyen 111 variety yields outstanding results.

Also on May 14th, Mr. Tran Manh Bao - Chairman of the Board of Directors of ThaiBinh Seed Group, along with a delegation and representatives, visited and evaluated the production results of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety in Ngoc Son commune, Quynh Luu district. This is one of the main rice varieties of Nghe An province for many years and has always received the trust of farmers thanks to its superior yield and high rice quality.

The delegation directly inspected and assessed the production situation of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety in the local fields. The on-site observations showed that the Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety had uniformly heavy, grain-bearing ears.

Mr. Tran Van Phuong, a farmer in Ngoc Son hamlet, Quynh Luu district, shared: “This spring, my family planted 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety. This variety has a high tillering capacity and a higher number of panicles compared to other varieties. The expected yield is about 3.6 to 3.7 quintals per sao. The cultivation techniques are quite simple but very effective, especially since this rice variety has excellent resistance to bacterial blight and blast, is less prone to lodging, and produces fragrant and delicious rice.”

In addition, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of Tan Ngoc Agricultural Service Cooperative in Ngoc Son commune, said: “This spring, Ngoc Son commune has planted over 130 hectares of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety. This rice variety has excellent pest and disease resistance, helping people save production costs and increase productivity. It is expected that the yield for the entire commune this spring could reach 74 quintals/hectare.”

The Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety not only adapts well to the soil conditions of Ngoc Son commune but also has effective resistance to pests and diseases, especially in unfavorable weather conditions. This is the factor that makes this rice variety the preferred choice of farmers in the area.

Thai Xuyen 111 is a three-line hybrid rice variety, a collaborative product between the High-Tech Agricultural Co., Ltd. - Sichuan Agricultural University (China) and ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company. This rice variety was recognized as a national variety in 2010 and has been widely cultivated in many provinces and cities nationwide, especially in Nghe An.

Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety has a plant height of 105-110 cm, a sturdy stem, good lodging resistance, strong tillering, large panicles, and many grains. The rice grains meet the standard length, with a 1,000-grain weight of 25 to 26 grams. This variety has fairly good resistance to blast disease and mild susceptibility to bacterial leaf blight, making it one of the rice varieties that tolerates intensive cultivation well and is suitable for modern farming methods.

With an average yield of 70 to 80 quintals/hectare, and potentially reaching 90-100 quintals/hectare with intensive farming practices, Thai Xuyen 111 is one of the rice varieties with outstanding productivity. The quality of rice from this variety is also highly regarded, with translucent grains, soft cooked rice, and a mild aroma.

At the seminar, Mr. Tran Manh Bao - Chairman of the Board of Directors of ThaiBinh Seed Group shared: “Current climate change makes it impossible for us to predict weather conditions as accurately as before, but ThaiBinh Seed's Thai Xuyen 111 and TBR 97 varieties still ensure good yield and quality even under unfavorable weather conditions. These two rice varieties have good resistance to harsh weather and pests, such as resistance to lodging, cold, and leaf blight, helping farmers achieve high yields and minimize risks.”

Through field visits and workshops, delegates highly appreciated the TBR 97 and Thai Xuyen 111 rice varieties for their growth potential, disease resistance, and yield. Compared to other rice varieties grown in the same area, these two varieties have great potential for development in upcoming production seasons. With the support of ThaiBinh Seed, farmers in Nghe An can continue to apply these high-quality rice varieties to improve productivity, quality, and economic efficiency in rice production.
