Accordingly, from around February until now, authorities have been working in coordination with cross-border service providers such as Google and Facebook to prevent harmful and toxic information in YouTube videos, fake accounts, and websites that incite violence, oppose the state, or defame organizations and individuals in Vietnam.
Over the past period, Google's high-level delegation has met with authorities three times, and Facebook's once. During these meetings, representatives from both tech giants expressed their willingness to cooperate with authorities in cleaning up the internet environment and protecting users based on compliance with Vietnamese law and international practices.
Representatives from the Department of Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information also stated that Google has established a separate mechanism allowing Vietnamese authorities to simultaneously send multiple infringing links to the organization, as well as providing additional tools to help advertisers better control their ads on YouTube.
Meanwhile, Facebook has dealt with numerous fake news pages sent to it by Vietnamese authorities. The world's largest social network has also established a team to handle this issue.
Figures released by the head of the Information Security Department in February showed that Vietnam has approximately 50 million internet users, reaching over 53% of the population.
Just considering Facebook alone, Vietnam has nearly 48 million monthly active users, and approximately 30 million daily active users… These are truly impressive figures, demonstrating the explosive growth of the Internet in Vietnam.
With the rapid development of technology, affordable devices, and the widespread availability of mobile internet, accessing information is extremely easy for the public. However, alongside these positive aspects, hostile forces have exploited this to slander the regime and its leaders, spread false information, incite hatred, disrupt information flow, and disseminate fake news, causing harm to users.
The authorities also stated that not only Vietnam, but many other countries have taken strong measures to improve the health of the online information environment. Only then can people access accurate and useful information that serves socio-economic development.
