Google Translate is preparing to support Live Translate, a feature that works without an internet connection.
Google is developing offline translation capabilities for its Google Translate app on Android, allowing users to communicate in real time without an internet connection.
Google is preparing to update its Live Translate feature to allow completely offline operation. This is a significant step forward, helping users overcome language barriers when traveling to areas without cellular or internet coverage, instead of being limited to just text translation as it is currently.

Leaked evidence of offline voice translation
The latest data has been discovered in the source code of the Google Translate app version 10.17.48 for Android. Previously, although users could download language packs for offline use, the app only supported text translation or scanning static images. Attempting to activate live voice translation without an internet connection often resulted in system errors.

The mechanism works through downloaded language packs.
To maintain the Live Translate feature in an offline environment, Google requires users to pre-download the corresponding language data packages to their phone's memory. According to leaked information, the initial supported list is expected to focus on popular languages including English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish.

Refine the interface to support one-handed operation.
In addition to offline translation capabilities, Google is also making changes to the user interface (UI). Key function keys such as text paste, handwriting, and voice input will be grouped together and moved to the bottom edge of the screen. This change aims to optimize the one-handed user experience, making interaction faster and more convenient.

Bringing artificial intelligence (AI) models directly onto devices (on-device) without relying on cloud servers marks a significant shift for Google. While more time is needed to verify the accuracy of translations when operating independently, this feature promises to transform phones into professional pocket translation devices in any situation.
