Google Maps upgrades its AI chatbot to help with food ordering, hotel searches, and many other smart features.
Google has just upgraded its AI chatbot, Ask Maps, on Google Maps to help users order food, find hotels, research events, and personalize it with Gmail, expanding its reach to over 150 countries, including Vietnam.
Google has just announced a series of notable upgrades to Ask Maps – the AI chatbot integrated into Google Maps. Beyond simply answering location-related questions, Ask Maps can now assist with ordering food, finding and booking hotels, researching events in real time, and providing personalized suggestions based on data from the Google ecosystem.
Ask Maps can help users order food.
Google introduced Ask Maps in March 2026 as an AI assistant within Google Maps, helping users search for information in a natural, conversational way instead of just displaying results on a map.
In its latest update, Google has added the ability to order food directly through conversation. Users simply enter a request such as "recommend a place near me that serves buttered bread and oat coffee," and Ask Maps will provide a list of suitable options.

After selecting a location, users can proceed to order food directly within the conversation. This feature is being rolled out by Google through partnerships with Toast, Square, and Uber Eats. Initially, Toast and Square will be supported first, with Uber Eats added later.
According to Google, this is also one of the first applications of the Universal Commerce Protocol – the AI commerce platform that the company introduced at the Google I/O 2026 event.
Ask Maps helps you find and book hotels according to your requirements.
Besides ordering food, Ask Maps can also help users find suitable hotels for their trip.
Users simply need to describe criteria such as budget, room type, room size, or proximity to attractions. The AI will search for options that meet the requirements, while also comparing prices and checking room availability in real time.
After selecting a suitable hotel, users will be redirected to the partner's website to complete the booking.
Google has also expanded this feature to include searching for live events such as concerts, live shows, or comedy performances taking place near the user's location.
Ask Maps helps personalize your Gmail experience and remembers your conversations.
Another new feature is Personal Intelligence – a feature that first appeared on Gemini and is now integrated into Ask Maps.
If users allow connection to Gmail, Ask Maps can use information in emails to provide more accurate suggestions. For example, before a trip, the chatbot can identify the hotel booked via Gmail and suggest nearby restaurants or places to eat.

In the future, Google will expand its connections with many other services such as Google Calendar.
Additionally, if you enable the History feature in Google Maps, Ask Maps will remember previous conversations, allowing users to continue the exchange without having to start over.
Google emphasizes that all control remains with the user. Connecting Ask Maps to Gmail is disabled by default and only works when the user actively enables it.
Ask Maps provides real-time public transport updates.
For frequent public transport users, Ask Maps can now display a real-time widget directly within the chat window.
For example, if the journey involves a ferry or train, the chatbot will display waiting times, delay information, and the latest updates without switching to another screen.
If users notice a store has changed its opening hours, they can simply take a picture of the sign and upload it to Ask Maps. The chatbot will analyze the content, ask for user confirmation before sending a suggested change to Google.
These suggestions will still be subject to Google's manual review process to ensure accuracy.
Along with the update, Google expanded Ask Maps to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, and more than 150 other countries and territories, including Vietnam, with the ability to chat in English.
However, Google stated that features such as ordering food, finding and booking hotels, discovering live events, and editing locations via conversation are currently only available in the US. These features will gradually be expanded to other countries in the future.
