Google enhances security for Android users with two new anti-phishing features.

Google has just added two new security tools to protect users from phishing links.

Google has been undergoing a major overhaul in recent months, focusing on improving user protection against increasingly sophisticated online scams. Recently, Google announced two significant security enhancements: Key Verifier and Scam Link Alerts, both of which have now been officially rolled out.

In this system, the Key Verifier tool acts as an additional layer of security, helping users verify the sender's identity by checking the end-to-end encryption key to ensure the message actually comes from a trusted source.

Meanwhile, automated scam link alerts will proactively scan links shared in conversations and display warnings as soon as suspicious activity is detected, helping users avoid clicking on malicious links or fake websites.

According to Google, phishing link warnings are now available to all Google Messages users. Meanwhile, Key Verifier is currently only enabled on devices running Android 10 or later, and the company says it plans to expand other protection measures based on this technology.

In an official statement, Google highlighted the growing threat of digital fraud. The company stated: “Nearly 60% of the global population has been a victim of fraud in the past year. The increasing prevalence of internet connectivity has contributed to this surge, but more concerning is the widespread use of advanced technology, making scams more sophisticated and dangerous than ever before.”

To counter this, Key Verifier is considered the most prominent feature. First launched in May and updated in detail last August, this tool is designed to “add a layer of trust” to private conversations between two users. Specifically, users can scan the other person’s QR code to verify the end-to-end encryption key, ensuring that the received message actually comes from someone they trust.

To use Key Verifier, users simply open the live chat, tap the contact's name at the top of the screen, scroll down, and select "Verify key” → “Scan the contact's QR code.Note that both parties need to perform this action to complete the authentication process.

Simultaneously, Scam Link Alerts acts as an early warning system, proactively scanning and evaluating links sent in messages. If it detects a suspicious link, such as one leading to a fake website or containing malware, Google Messages will immediately display a pop-up alert, helping users to identify and avoid accessing it.

Google affirms its continued strong investment in user security: “We are constantly innovating and adding protective features built directly into our products. These initiatives are designed to help users identify, prevent, and avoid scams before they cause harm.”

With this direction, many experts predict that Google will further expand its protection system in the future, aiming to create a safer and more transparent messaging environment for billions of users worldwide.
