Comments on the draft design of the statue of the patriotic scholar Phan Bội Châu
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 27th, the Department of Culture and Tourism held a meeting to provide feedback on the second draft design of the statue of the patriotic scholar Phan Boi Chau, part of the project to restore and renovate the Phan Boi Chau Memorial Area in Nam Dan town, Nam Dan district.

At the meeting, the unit responsible for designing the monument presented the second draft, which included several additions and revisions based on feedback from the Art Council in previous meetings.
Accordingly, the pedestal of the statue is made of natural stone; the statue has a slightly leaning posture, expressing a dynamic pose; the statue is dressed in a headscarf and silk robe, wearing glasses, holding a book in its right hand and clenching its left hand, exuding both simplicity and decorum, while simultaneously demonstrating the uprightness and decisiveness of a person dedicated to the nation.
The preliminary sketches of the statue were carefully reviewed and studied by members of the Art Council, descendants of Phan Bo Chau, and others, who offered many suggestions and discussed the matter. Regarding the advantages, the members present generally agreed that the second sketch was more soulful and beautiful than the first.

However, overall, the statue fails to capture the dignified and serious character of Phan Boi Chau; the costume design is somewhat inappropriate for the historical period… In addition, many opinions have been raised regarding details on the statue's face, the folds of the robe, the posture of holding the book…
The art council members also emphasized that a portrait of the patriotic scholar Phan Boi Chau is currently preserved in the Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site (Nam Dan), and the creative unit needs to closely adhere to this image in their design.
Listening to and taking note of the opinions expressed at the meeting, the creative team affirmed that they will carry out the statue of Phan Boi Chau with dedication and deep affection for the patriotic scholar. Following this meeting, the creative team will proceed with revisions and additions, and move on to the clay and plaster casting stage, with an estimated completion time of 2 months.
