The wild ginger plant grows to a height of about 1-1.3m, with a rhizome in the form of a tuber that branches extensively. When young, the tuber is yellow and fragrant; as it matures, the tuber becomes larger and firmer; the inside is yellow and has a pleasant, sweet aroma.
Traditional Chinese medicine holds that ginger has a bitter, spicy taste and a warm nature, with the ability to dispel wind and cold, relieve pain, and treat blood stasis. Therefore, it can treat stroke, dizziness, nausea, and fainting. It is especially effective in detoxifying, nourishing the body after childbirth, stimulating digestion, improving appetite and sleep, and giving the skin a healthy glow.
Additionally, ginger root is effective in treating simple cirrhosis with ascites, meaning cirrhosis with ascites not caused by hepatitis B, C, or cancer.
However, it depends on individual constitutions; some people adapt well, others do not. Therefore, when using this therapy, caution is needed to rule out cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B or C viruses or cancer to avoid inappropriate use.
Some ways to use ginger to treat illnesses:
Treatment for fainting due to wind-induced illness: Take 20-30g of ginger rhizome, wash it thoroughly, crush it, add a little alcohol, strain the liquid and drink it.
To treat cold and numb feet: Crush ginger, mix with a little alcohol, heat the mixture, and rub the remaining pulp all over the body.
To stop bleeding from wounds: Crush the rhizome of the wild ginger plant together with the leaves of the cat's claw plant (when the leaves are dried, they are called "thanh dai") and apply to the wound, then bandage it in place.
Treatment for cirrhosis with ascites: Take 100g of fresh ginger rhizome, wash it thoroughly with the peel on, slice it thinly, put it in an earthenware pot, add 4 bowls of water, simmer over low heat until only 1 bowl remains, strain and drink the liquid at 10 AM. For the second decoction, add 4 bowls of water, simmer over low heat until only 1 bowl remains, drink the liquid at 4 PM.
After taking the ginger-based medicine for about 1-2 hours, you will feel a slight rumbling in your stomach and an urge to defecate. When you defecate, you will see loose, foul-smelling stools, light brown in color like coffee grounds; this indicates that it is working.
However, during the course of treatment, it is necessary to eat a bland diet, limit consumption of ripe fruits rich in potassium as they can cause bloating, abstain from alcohol and beer, avoid animal fats, eat less vegetable oil, and avoid seafood.
