Ky Son GingerGinger harvesting began at the end of the year and is currently the main harvesting season for farmers. According to our research, ginger was priced at 20,000 VND/kg at the beginning of the season, but since the beginning of February it has dropped sharply to only 6,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Pha Danh commune (Ky Son district), said that in previous years, ginger sold at a good price, but this year, during the main harvest season, it is not selling well.traders"The price offered to farmers is only 6,000 VND/kg. 'People in Pha Danh have only recently started growing ginger, so the planted area is not yet large. It's currently harvest season, but the selling price is low, so the farmers aren't very enthusiastic,' Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong shared.

The Huong Son Agricultural and Handicraft Service Cooperative is the main buyer and distributor of ginger in Ky Son district. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Luan, Director of the Cooperative, at the beginning of the season, the price of ginger was 20,000 VND/kg, but as the season progressed, the price dropped. Currently, the cooperative is buying ginger from farmers at 6,000 VND/kg, the lowest price in several years.

Regarding the sharp drop in ginger prices this year, Mr. Luan believes that the high transportation costs have discouraged businesses from exporting. Meanwhile, Ky Son ginger is difficult to sell domestically because its appearance is not as appealing as ginger from other localities, despite its better quality.
In addition, this year, the area planted with ginger in Ky Son is larger than in previous years, resulting in a situation where supply exceeds demand.

According to data from the Ky Son District Department of Agriculture, this year the area planted with ginger in the locality is over 800 hectares, an increase compared to last year. In addition to communes with a tradition of ginger cultivation such as Na Ngoi, Tay Son, Dooc May, Nam Can, and Huoi Tu, several other communes have joined ginger cultivation this year, including Pha Danh and Keng Du. Ky Son ginger, grown on hillside fields in a cool climate, yields high productivity, with buffalo horn ginger reaching 28 tons/ha and small ginger reaching 16-18 tons/ha.

According to the plan, Ky Son will plant 3,000 hectares of ginger by 2025.
