On May 28th, the Economic Security Department of the Ha Nam Provincial Police announced the discovery of nearly three tons of pork testing positive for African swine fever virus at the slaughterhouse owned by Mr. Nguyen Tien Manh in Ninh Lao residential area, Duy Minh ward, Duy Tien town, Ha Nam province.

Earlier, in the early morning of May 27th, the Economic Security Department of the Ha Nam Provincial Police, in coordination with the Ha Nam Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, conducted a surprise inspection of the slaughterhouse owned by Mr. Nguyen Tien Manh's family.

During the inspection, authorities discovered that the facility had four workers involved in slaughtering, none wearing protective clothing, and without health checks or certification of food safety knowledge. An inspection of the slaughtering area revealed five pigs being slaughtered on the cement floor, failing to meet food safety and hygiene standards. The holding area contained 21 pigs (weighing between 50 and 140 kg each), all exhibiting symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, lethargy, sluggishness, and dry noses.

Working with the authorities, Mr. Mạnh confessed that all the pigs were sick and unhealthy, purchased from livestock farmers in Kim Bảng town and surrounding areas.

The inspection team collected samples at the slaughterhouse and sent them to the Regional Veterinary Sub-Department I, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The results showed that the samples tested positive for African Swine Fever virus. The inspection team coordinated with the People's Committee of Duy Minh Ward, Duy Tien Town, to destroy all live pigs and pork that tested positive for African Swine Fever virus. Simultaneously, disease prevention and control measures were implemented according to regulations.

Currently, the Ha Nam Provincial Police are continuing to coordinate with the Ha Nam Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to verify, clarify, and handle the matter according to regulations.
