Hanoi's minimum Tet bonus is 450,000 VND.

The highest and lowest Lunar New Year bonuses in the capital this year both belong to FDI enterprises, at 100 million and 450,000 VND respectively.

The Hanoi Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has just released a survey report on Lunar New Year bonuses and salaries in 2016. According to the report, the highest bonus reported so far belongs to foreign-invested enterprises (FDI) with 100 million VND, while the lowest – 450,000 VND – also belongs to this type of enterprise. The average Lunar New Year bonus in the FDI sector is approximately 3.8 million VND, an increase of nearly 1% compared to last year.

Employees in state-owned enterprises received lower average bonuses than those in FDI companies, at approximately 3.5 million VND, a 1.4% increase compared to the previous year. The highest bonus was 20 million VND, while the lowest was 500,000 VND.

State-owned limited liability companies awarded bonuses of nearly 3.4 million VND per person, a 1.5% increase compared to the previous year. The highest bonus was over 38 million VND, while the lowest was 500,000 VND.

State-owned enterprises awarded Tet bonuses of 3.7 million VND, the same as last year. The highest bonus was 25 million VND, and the lowest was 550,000 VND.

In 2015, the local economy improved, leading many businesses to plan a 1.5% increase in Tet bonuses compared to the previous year. Besides Hanoi, many major cities announced their highest Tet bonuses. In Ho Chi Minh City, a foreign-invested enterprise awarded a bonus of 2 billion VND, Da Nang 200 million VND, Binh Duong 80 million VND, while Bac Ninh's bonus was 236 million VND.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Labor Pham Minh Huan also predicted that Tet bonuses in 2016 would be higher than in 2015. "The reason is the improving economic situation, the GDP index is increasing, industrial production, wages and basic income are stable," Mr. Huan explained.

For the Lunar New Year of 2015 (Year of the Goat), statistics from 13,000 businesses nationwide showed an average bonus of 5 million VND, a 15% increase compared to the previous year. The highest Lunar New Year bonus was 482 million VND, paid by a company in Binh Duong. The lowest bonus was 30,000 VND, given by a private enterprise in the South.
