Defeating Thailand, the 2018 AFF Cup champion entered the 2019 King's Cup final
Trung Kien - June 5, 2019 21:55
(Baonghean.vn) - True to the nature of a match to determine the winner and affirm their position in the Southeast Asian region, Thailand and Vietnam delivered a fierce and quite attractive match.
In the starting lineup of the Vietnam national team, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam continues to be trusted. Meanwhile, the defensive trio is Que Ngoc Hai, Bui Tien Dung and Duy Manh. In the midfield are 4 names: Trong Hoang on the right wing, Van Hau on the left wing and the central midfielder pair Hung Dung - Tuan Anh. The 3-man attack line according to coach Park Hang-seo's 3-4-3 formation is Van Toan - Anh Duc - Quang Hai.
Entering the match, the Vietnamese team, with their position, entered the match confidently against the home team Thailand. With a high-level squad actively pressing high while Thailand played cautiously and probing, the game in the first minutes of the first half was slightly better for the away team, however, clear opportunities towards the goal were still not created by the two teams.
In the 10th minute, Van Hau collided strongly with an opposing player in a dispute. It seemed that Hong Duy would be replaced, but after being treated, the number 5 defender of the Vietnam national team was still able to continue playing.

Although unable to impose their style of play, Thailand proved dangerous in rare attacks. In the 16th minute, striker Supachai, in a lone situation on the attack line, unexpectedly turned around and fired a shot that completely defeated Dang Van Lam, but luckily the goalpost saved Vietnam from a clear loss.
In the middle minutes of the match, the ball mainly rolled in the midfield area when the two teams could not launch an attack and the midfield on both sides could not create a breakthrough, causing the match to be stalemate until the end of the match.
Before the break, Vietnam pushed up their formation to increase their attack power, but the score was still 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Thailand increased the speed and continuously launched long-range shots but were not very effective.
In the 62nd minute, after Duy Manh fouled a Thai player, the match was interrupted due to verbal exchanges and collisions between players from both teams.
In the 71st minute, from a free kick on the right wing, a Thai player put the ball into Van Lam's net, but luckily for Vietnam, the referee did not recognize the goal. Before scoring, the Thai player fouled a Vietnam defender.

Immediately after this situation, Bui Tien Dung was withdrawn to make way for Hong Duy and Doan Van Hau was moved down to play left-back while Cong Phuong came on to replace Van Toan. Although the midfield was somewhat weak, Coach Park still kept Tuan Anh in the midfield. For the first time under the Korean coach, the Vietnamese team played with a 4-defender formation.
Immediately after entering the field, Cong Phuong made a move with a combination, turning and shooting right at the edge of the 16m50 box. The situation was very dangerous but the ball went just wide of the crossbar.
The match became heated when Thailand continuously committed brutal fouls, especially Pansa's man-kicking situation with Cong Phuong in the 75th minute.
The most significant opportunity that Vietnam created from the beginning of the match was Hong Duy's pass to Quang Hai to finish in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, the touch of Vietnam's number 19 player was not perfect but was enough to make goalkeeper Kawin's goal wobble.

When the official time was only a few minutes left, Xuan Truong was sent onto the field to replace Tuan Anh. In the 4 minutes of extra time, the Vietnam team did not let the match go down to the penalty shootout. When the match time was less than 1 minute left, Anh Duc's close-range header startled goalkeeper Kawin and made a mistake.
In the end, Vietnam won 1-0 thanks to a valuable goal by Anh Duc in the last seconds. The 2018 AFF Cup champion made a statement and deservedly won right on Thai soil, thereby entering the final match of the 2019 King's Cup against Curacao on June 8. Meanwhile, the host Thailand had to play the third-place match./.
