Two villages in Con Cuong have been recognized as meeting the standards of the new rural development program.
(Baonghean.vn) - The villages of Chòm Muộng and Kẻ Sùng are Thái ethnic communities in Mậu Đức commune (Con Cuông district). From poverty and backwardness, the people of these two villages have risen to achieve many changes, becoming progressive, united, and pioneering in local socio-economic movements. Recently, both villages were recognized by the State as achieving the title of New Rural Area.

Chòm Muộng village has been recognized as a cultural village since 1999. The village is famous for its traditional rice wine making, renowned not only in Con Cuông district but also throughout Nghệ An province. Currently, the villagers are striving to develop this traditional craft in order to be officially recognized as a traditional craft village. Chòm Muộng has 197 households with 865 inhabitants, whose livelihoods mainly depend on livestock farming following an integrated agricultural and forestry model.
Implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, over the past years, the people of Chòm Muộng village have united to overcome all difficulties and achieve all 15 criteria of a new rural village. Currently, nearly 60% of the village's internal roads are concreted, and the irrigation canal system effectively meets the needs for irrigation and agricultural product transportation. The rural electricity system is reliable, and the infrastructure and facilities for culture, sports, and recreation meet the needs of the people. The ethnic cultural identity is preserved and promoted. Notably, 100% of people of working age have regular employment, and 138 out of 147 people have received training. The average per capita income in the village is over 36 million VND/person/year. The poverty rate is only 11.67%. Regarding education, the village has no dropouts, and the completion rate of cultural programs at all levels is satisfactory. The criteria for healthcare, environment, political system, security and order, and village regulations all met the set targets.

As for Ke Sung village, it has 190 households with 908 inhabitants, mostly of the Thai ethnic group. The village was awarded the title of "Cultural Village" in 2014. Over 73% of the village's internal roads are concreted, and 67% of the irrigation canals meet the irrigation needs of over 82% of the inland area. The villagers' main income comes from growing acacia trees for raw materials and livestock farming.

The average per capita income is over 36 million VND/person/year. All criteria have met and exceeded the set plan. In particular, the environmental criteria have been well implemented by the people with the movement of each family having "3 sheds and 3 pits" to ensure proper waste disposal; people actively plant trees to create a beautiful environment, and village roads and alleys are becoming increasingly clean, beautiful, and civilized.
Thanks to fulfilling 15 criteria according to the standards, in 2020, the two villages of Chòm Muộng and Kẻ Sùng were recognized as achieving the new rural standard. This title was awarded on April 21st./.
