According to the ministry, this naval exercise will take place from August 1-9 in the Baltic Sea region under the direction of Russian Navy Commander, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov.
"Overall, the exercise involved 49 warships, 20 support vessels, 58 aircraft of the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces, and 10,634 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The exercise will practice the deployment of the Navy's fleet group as well as the command skills of the fleet's forces. In addition, the exercise will test the Navy's combat readiness to protect Russia's national interests.
The Russian Navy conducted the Ocean Shield exercise for the first time in its modern history last year in the Mediterranean Sea. The exercise, which took place from September 1 to 8 last year, involved 26 warships, two submarines, and 34 aircraft from the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces. Sailors practiced launching missiles from warships, helicopters, and planes.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that the large-scale Ocean Shield exercise involving naval forces and aircraft will be held regularly./.
