The Russian Navy is conducting large-scale exercises in the Baltic Sea.
(Baonghean.vn) - On August 1st, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that approximately 70 warships and support vessels, along with 58 aircraft from the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces, are participating in the annual Ocean Shield 2019 exercise in the Baltic Sea.

According to the ministry, the naval exercise will take place from August 1-9 in the Baltic Sea region under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced: "Overall, the exercise involved 49 warships, 20 support vessels, 58 aircraft of the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces, and 10,634 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces."
The exercise will practice the deployment of naval fleet groups as well as the command skills of fleet forces. In addition, the exercise will test the readiness of the Navy to protect Russia's national interests.
The Russian Navy conducted its first-ever Ocean Shield exercise in modern history last year in the Mediterranean Sea. The exercise, which took place from September 1-8, involved 26 warships, 2 submarines, and 34 aircraft from the Russian Navy and Aerospace Forces. Sailors practiced launching missiles from warships, helicopters, and aircraft.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that the large-scale Ocean Shield exercises, involving naval forces and aircraft, will be held regularly.
