The Vietnamese Navy has commissioned two new Molniya-class ships.

On the morning of October 9th, Ba Son Corporation handed over the Molniya missile boats, numbered 382 and 383, to the Vietnamese Navy.

The two newest missile boats have been delivered to the 167th Brigade, 2nd Naval Region Command. The M5 and M6 missile boats (numbered 382 and 383) are part of a batch of six that the Navy contracted with Ba Son Corporation (General Department of Defense Industry) in 2009 under a technology transfer agreement from Russia.

According to the contract, the overall hull and superstructure layout diagrams, design drawings, and construction drawings for the third pair of ships, based on the license transfer documents with modifications and confirmation from Russian experts, were strictly implemented by Ba Son according to established procedures. Meanwhile, the materials used in the fabrication and processing of the hull and superstructure were suitable and had clear certifications and origins.

Russian experts assess that the construction of the segments, main sections, hull assembly, and superstructure by Ba Son is on schedule, ensuring quality, meeting technical requirements, and conforming to the technical design documents of the 12418 Molniya vessel transferred under license from the Russian Federation.

The Molniya-class missile boat is one of the most modern and reliable attack missile boats in the world today, designed by the Almaz Naval Design Institute (Russian Federation). The successful construction of six Molniya-class fast attack missile boats marks a significant milestone in the history of Vietnam's military shipbuilding industry.

The Molniya-class 12418 fast attack missile boat is one of the most complexly designed vessels, showcasing the latest achievements of scientific and technological progress. With a displacement of 560 tons, it boasts exceptional seaworthiness, reaching a maximum speed of nearly 70 km/h under standard conditions.

The ship has an operational time at sea of ​​10 days and an operating range at average speed of 1,650 to 2,400 nautical miles. It is designed to independently destroy enemy fleets or groups of warships, landing craft, escort vessels, and other naval formations; protect submarines and landing craft; and perform reconnaissance missions.

The ship incorporates numerous high-tech systems and equipment, combining the best of offensive and defensive capabilities, such as: weapon systems, propulsion systems, control systems, protection systems, and structural systems ensuring ship survivability, seaworthiness, independent operation, and other equipment.

The ship's firepower system is equipped with the Kh-35 Uran-E missile system, with 16 missiles arranged in 4 launchers on either side of the ship. This type of missile is capable of sinking warships with a displacement of up to 5,000 tons, with a range of up to 130 km.

Additionally, the ship is equipped with an AK-176M 76.2mm automatic naval gun with a range of 15 km and a rate of fire of 130 rounds/minute, two AK-630M high-speed anti-aircraft guns with a rate of fire of up to 5,000 rounds/minute, and two AK-630M six-barreled automatic guns with a range of 4-5 km and a rate of fire of 4,000-5,000 rounds/minute.
