Ba Son Corporation has completed the construction of the third pair of missile boats (M5, M6), equipped with AK-176M automatic cannons with a range of 15 km and an altitude of 11 km, to destroy targets in the air, on the water, and on land.

These are two of the six modern missile boats that Ba Son Corporation (under the General Department of Defense Industry) contracted to build for the Vietnam Navy, based on a technology transfer agreement between the Russian Federation and Vietnam dating back to 2009.

Both vessels were inspected at the dock, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment. From August 22nd to 26th, the results of the sea trials showed that the vessels' performance was satisfactory. All systems and equipment are operating synchronously and stably, meeting the technical and tactical requirements as per the contract.

The council will continue to review other issues as a basis for completing the remaining points, further refining the ship, and reporting to the relevant authorities for further acceptance at the Ministry of National Defense level. After that, the ship will be handed over to the Navy.

The first Molnya-class missile boat (also known as the M-series or 12418-class missile boat) was delivered to Vietnam by Russia in 2007, and the second in 2008. In 2010, Ba Son Corporation began implementing the licensing portion of the contract with Russia. To date, Vietnam has completed the construction of four Molnya-class ships. The pair recently accepted are the fifth and sixth vessels.

The ship has a displacement of 560 tons, very high seaworthiness with a maximum speed of nearly 70 km/h under standard conditions. It has an operational time at sea of 10 days and an operating range of 1650-2400 nautical miles at average speed.

The ship is designed to independently destroy enemy fleets or groups of warships, landing craft, escort ships, and other naval formations; protect submarines and landing craft; and perform reconnaissance missions…

In addition to a modern target-tracking radar system that ensures accuracy in detecting and destroying targets, Molnya is equipped with a launch system for 16 Uran-E anti-ship missiles with a range of 130 km.

For defense, the ship is equipped with an AK-176M automatic cannon, with a range of 15 km and an altitude of 11 km, to destroy targets in the air, on the water, and on land; and two AK-630M six-barreled automatic cannons with a range of 4-5 km and a firing rate of 4000-5000 rounds per minute.
