(Baonghen.vn) - The Vinh City Police Department announced that the Criminal Investigation Agency has initiated a case, indicted the suspects, and issued a temporary detention order against Tran Anh Tu and Nguyen Van Nam for the act of resisting public officials.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Tho (born in 1986), residing in Hamlet 22, Nghi Phong Commune, Nghi Loc District - the victim in the case - as stated to the investigating agency: At approximately 10:05 PM on October 31, 2016, after finishing work, Ms. Tho was riding her motorbike home. While traveling on Lenin Boulevard (about 150 meters from the Nghi Phu Commune gas station), she was suddenly overtaken and blocked from behind by Tran Anh Tu and Nguyen Van Nam, who were riding a blue and white Excier motorbike. Tu used his hand to hit Ms. Tho on the head, causing her to fall to the ground and sustain injuries.

At the same time, Comrade Phan Quang Linh - a permanent police officer of Nghi Phu commune, Vinh City (wearing his commune police uniform) - was on his way to the area. Seeing this, Comrade Linh ran over, introduced himself as a permanent police officer of Nghi Phu commune, and instructed the two young men not to beat the woman; he also requested that the two young men come to the Nghi Phu commune People's Committee office to clarify the matter.

However, the two suspects, Tran Van Tu and Nguyen Van Nam, not only refused to comply but also resisted, challenged, and insulted Officer Linh. During the heated argument, Tran Van Tu jumped in, grabbed the rubber baton, and struck Officer Linh. Officer Linh defended himself and wrestled the baton back, but Tu hit him on the head with a brick, while Nam also joined in, punching and kicking Officer Linh in the face, causing him injuries and making him fall to the ground.

With the help of passersby, Comrade Linh and Ms. Tho were taken to the 115 General Hospital in Nghe An for emergency treatment and wound dressing. After consolidating the case file and evidence, the Criminal Investigation Department of Vinh City Police initiated a criminal case, indicted the suspects, and issued a temporary detention order against the two suspects, Tran Van Tu and Nguyen Van Nam, for the act of resisting public officials to facilitate the investigation.

It is known that both Tu and Nam have bad criminal records. In 2003, Tu was sentenced by the Vinh City People's Court to 45 months in prison for illegal possession of narcotics, theft, and fraud. In 2007, Tu was again sentenced by the Vinh City People's Court to 33 months in prison for theft and intentional infliction of injury.

As for Nguyen Van Nam, in 1999 he was sentenced by the People's Court to 24 months in prison for the crime of receiving stolen property, but was given a suspended sentence. In 2011, Nam was again sentenced by the Vinh City People's Court to 24 months in prison for theft.
