At least five people were killed after two military helicopters collided in mid-air and crashed near a lake in southern France.

Investigators said the two military helicopters crashed near Lake Carces, about 50 kilometers northwest of the town of Saint-Tropez in the Var region.AFPNews report. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. this morning.
"Two helicopters collided. One helicopter had three people on board, the other had two. All were killed," police announced in the nearby town of Brignoles.
The French military confirmed the information. The two helicopters involved in the crash are believed to be Aerospatiale Gazelles, a model commonly used by the French military. Officials in the Var region said the two helicopters belonged to the Eatat training school, which trains pilots for the military.
