According to Yonhap news agency, citing an unnamed South Korean official, Seoul is preparing to propose military talks with Pyongyang, following President Moon Jae-in's call to end all hostilities at the inter-Korean border.

The South Korean Unification Ministry, the Ministry of Defense, and other relevant ministries are discussing the plan, a day after North Korea first responded to President Moon's proposal, the official said.

In a speech in Berlin, Germany, on July 6, President Moon presented ideas for bringing peace to the Korean Peninsula, including a proposal for Seoul and Pyongyang to jointly cease all hostilities along their border.

In response, Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers' Party of North Korea, published an editorial on July 15 emphasizing that it was "fortunate" that President Moon mentioned the South Korean government's commitment to implementing the landmark joint declarations signed at the inter-Korean summits in 2000 and 2007. These declarations aimed to promote cooperation, exchange, and reconciliation between the two Koreas.
