South Korea and China jointly issue warnings for Typhoon Lingling

On September 6, South Korea and China simultaneously issued warnings of typhoon Lingling causing heavy rain and strong winds in many localities in both countries.

According to the Korea Meteorological Agency, Typhoon Lingling is currently located about 470km southwest of the resort island of Jeju and is moving north towards the island.

Winds near the center of the storm are currently at around 162km/h - a strength that can knock down trees. Typhoon Lingling is forecast to be about 140km southwest of Seoul at 3pm on September 7 (local time).

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety of South Korea has issued a typhoon warning across the country. Due to the impact of the typhoon, sea and air routes on Jeju Island have been blocked, and some local authorities have also suspended hiking activities and changed the schedule of some weekend events.

Meanwhile, due to the impact of typhoon Lingling, several cities and provinces in China, including Shanghai, Zhejiang and Heilongjiang, are forecast to experience heavy rain and gusty winds.

China’s coastal provinces have upgraded their emergency response measures, ordering local ministries and departments to closely monitor the storm’s developments. Local agriculture and rural development departments have also ordered fishing boats to return to port. Aquaculture households have also been evacuated to safe areas.

Heilongjiang Meteorological Administration said on September 6 that due to the impact of Typhoon Lingling, many areas of the province will have to endure heavy rain and strong winds with a high risk of causing flash floods and landslides./.
