Dozens of landslides caused by heavy rain in Que Phong

(Baonghean.vn) - Heavy rain not only caused flooding but also landslides and rocks crashed into houses on many roads in Que Phong district, forcing evacuation.

According to information from the Que Phong district government, heavy rain on the night of September 26 and early morning of September 27 caused serious landslides on many roads in the area, cutting off some localities and affecting people's travel.

By 10am on September 27, the district had over 30 large and small landslides. Of these, 17 were on National Highway 16 and National Highway 48D. There were two major landslides causing traffic jams at Km 265+800, National Highway 16 and Km 203+750, National Highway 16.

For district roads, there are about 15 landslide points, including 2 large points at route DH 3.31, Nam Giai commune.

Mr. Lo Minh Tuong - Chairman of Nam Giai Commune People's Committee said: Currently, the road to the commune has been eroded and vehicles cannot enter the area. In the commune, there are also 5 villages that are currently isolated. The locality has evacuated 22 households from the dangerous area and assigned people to be on duty at key points.

In Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, there are also landslides, making it difficult for people to travel. Currently, 4 villages are flooded, including Lam Truong, Phuong Tien 2, Phuong Tien 1, and Dan village. The locality has also evacuated 30 households from 4 villages. In addition, 70 hectares of crops are heavily flooded.

Through discussion, Mr. Bui Van Hien - Vice Chairman of Que Phong District People's Committee said: Due to the impact of heavy rain, there are many landslides and separations in the area. The district has directed the forest rangers to put up warning signs and assign people to be on duty at points to ensure traffic for people such as at Chuoi slope, National Highway 16, the road to Nam Giai, Chau Thon... At the same time, machines will be used to level and clear one lane for people to pass, and when the rain stops, two lanes will be cleared. In addition, local authorities and functional forces in communes have proactively transported belongings and evacuated vulnerable people to safety.
