Currently, as the cassava production season is gradually coming to an end, many cassava starch processing factories in Nghe An are facing an unprecedented slump.

In early April 2025, we were present at Thanh Chuong Cassava Starch Processing Factory (Thanh Chuong district) and easily saw the large inventory of cassava starch.

The factory representative said that there are currently about 5,000 tons of cassava starch in stock, of which more than 2,000 tons are filled in the warehouse, and 3,000 tons have to be covered with tarpaulin and left outdoors because the warehouse is overloaded.

The price of cassava starch has also dropped sharply compared to the beginning of the season. Previously, the selling price was up to 13 million VND/ton, but now it is only 8.5-9 million VND/ton. However, even with this low price, the market has not seen many positive changes. Sales have almost "frozen".

Not only the factory in Thanh Chuong, the same situation is also happening at Hoa Son Cassava Starch Factory in Hoa Son Commune, Anh Son District. More than 15,000 tons of starch are in stock, of which more than 10,000 tons are forced to be left outdoors due to lack of storage space. The factory representative said: Although cassava starch is difficult to consume, all fresh cassava must still be purchased from the people, otherwise the cassava will be damaged.

Similarly, in Nghia Dan district, one of the localities with a large cassava growing area in Nghe An, some establishments here have had to limit production due to not being able to sell their products.

Cassava starch products currently produced cannot be consumed, inventories are piling up, prices have dropped sharply but there is still no outlet. This situation is making production enterprises and cassava growers in Nghe An extremely worried.

The main reason for this situation is that the Chinese market - the main consumer of Vietnam's cassava starch - is sharply reducing its import volume.
