Relief supplies reach flood victims in Nghe An: Acts of kindness amidst hardship.

The recent heavy rains and floods have caused severe flash floods and landslides in many areas of western Nghe An province. Roads have been cut off, hundreds of households have been evacuated, many areas are isolated, and there is a severe shortage of clean water and food.

In response to the situation, authorities at all levels, the armed forces, and charitable organizations quickly swung into action. The first relief convoys braved slippery roads and rocky obstacles to reach the flood-affected areas. In Tuong Duong commune, convoy after convoy, bearing the words "Flood Relief," delivered aid packages including rice, instant noodles, drinking water, blankets, mosquito nets, and cooking oil directly to the severely affected households.

“The floodwaters rose so high that the whole family only had time to run to the hill. Now, returning home with nothing left to eat, receiving a box of instant noodles, a bottle of drinking water, and some fish sauce, tears just keep flowing,” said Ms. Luong Thi Bich, a resident of Mac village, her voice choked with emotion.

Not only the authorities, but also many individuals and volunteer groups have called for and organized relief convoys departing from communes and wards, even from outside the province such as Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Hanoi... heading to the mountainous communes of Nghe An. These convoys, loaded with goods, set off early in the morning, navigating landslide-prone and muddy roads to deliver essential supplies to the people. Human kindness radiated through every glance and handshake between strangers who felt close to each other.

Observing some residential areas where the floodwaters had just receded, we occasionally saw people raising their hands to signal for relief supplies. The vehicles stopped, and they quickly opened the cargo compartments, handing out a few boxes of instant noodles, bottles of drinking water, and so on, before continuing on their way.

In these relief convoys, there's not only rice, salt, instant noodles, and drinking water, but also medicine and clothing... Each shipment, each small act at this time, becomes a flame warming the cold homes after the natural disaster.

Mr. Pham Van Hieu, a relief truck driver from Ninh Binh province, said that after a night of travel, his team arrived in Tuong Duong commune at over 8 am on July 27th. According to the plan, today the team will hand over all the goods and necessities to the Fatherland Front Committee of Tuong Duong commune, from where the local government will distribute them to the people, as the team cannot transport them to each village and hamlet. This trip, the team has collected items such as instant noodles, confectionery, drinking water, fish sauce, clothing, blankets, and mosquito nets.

According to data from the Fatherland Front Committee of Tuong Duong commune, as of noon on July 27th, the locality had received 28 relief delegations from localities within and outside the province: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Ha Tinh... In addition to goods mainly instant noodles, bottled water, fish sauce, confectionery, and clothing, there was also over 142 million VND in cash. To promptly deliver relief goods to flood-affected people, villages and hamlets sent people and vehicles to the commune center to receive them. For villages that were isolated, boats were used for transportation.

Although the roads are still littered with earth and rocks, the spirit of mutual support has never been stronger. Convoys of relief vehicles continue to stretch on. Helping hands continue to reach out. And somewhere amidst the drier villages, smiles are gradually returning to the faces of the people, though hardship remains, but they now have a solid foundation in the profound sense of brotherhood and solidarity.
