Transit goods from Laos at Nghe An seaport increased sharply
(Baonghean.vn) - In 2018, the volume of transit goods from Laos through seaports in the North Central region has gradually increased and is expected to grow in the coming time. Transit goods from Laos are often exported by large ships with ship sizes ranging from 20,000 DWT - 60,000 DWT.
According to Nghe Tinh Port, in 2018, fertilizer goods through the port reached 265,271 tons, an increase of 20.84% over the same period in 2017. The reason is that during the period, KaiYan potassium production factory in Laos expanded its export market and other domestic enterprises focused on importing goods due to increased domestic market demand, contributing to the growth of this item through the Port.
Container cargo reached 1.2 million tons, up 23% compared to 2017. Container cargo output increased thanks to the source of kaly cargo from Laos, packed in containers and transferred to Hai Phong for international export. This source of cargo was previously going through Thai ports.
In 2018, there was an additional transit of bacitra ore from Laos to export to the Middle East and US markets. The output of this item through the port reached 213,265 tons.

However, according to the latest maritime announcement, the current channel width of Cua Lo Port is 6.5m, so large ships cannot enter or exit, which has greatly affected the attraction of goods from Laos.
In the first 11 months of 2018, the volume of goods through Nghe Tinh Port reached over 3.3 million tons, an increase of 0.3% over the same period in 2017 and 83% of the 2018 plan. Of which: exported goods reached 970,982 tons; transit goods reached 388,637 tons, an increase of 294%; imported goods reached 102,232 tons, an increase of 14%; domestic goods reached nearly 1.9 million tons; container goods reached 69,626 TEU equivalent to 1.2 million tons passed through, an increase of 23.2% over the same period in 2017.
In 2018, the expected cargo output through Nghe Tinh port is over 3.6 tons; revenue is 175,449 million VND.
